About Slime BasketBall

In 1984 a Canadian physical education teacher from McGill University of Montreal sought a vigorous indoor sport to keep his students occupied and fit during long winter vacations. After thinking about many sports and rejecting them, he finally came up with the idea of basketball. He framed the basic rules and nailed a basket on a 10 foot elevated track. Unlike the modern basketball nets, the traditional basket retained its bottom and the balls had to be retrieved manually after each point scored. Soon after its evolution, the backboard was introduced so as to reduce the interference during the play and also to allow the rebounding shots. The first official basket ball match was played in YMCA on 20th January 1892.
